Dara Torres! What can you say about a woman who, at the age of 41, qualified for her 5th Olympics in 2 swimming events (100 and 50-meter freestyle)!? More impressive, she set an American record in the 50-meter in the process!
Such an inspiration (not that any of us are at her level - well, except for Susan, who's been in boot camp for 3 weeks - but still), she's awesome! She's at the top of her game at 41!! I took my running shoes out of the trash for her!
Other T&F trial news - we have a Klamath Falls local, Ian Dobson, going to Beijing in the 5k! Olympians coming out of this Basin isn't new. After all, this is Dan O'Brien's breeding ground (unknowingly, I was on the track several times with him in H.S. - our schools would occasionally compete and we graduated the same year).
And how about those other boys from Oregon - Nick Symmonds, Andrew Wheating and Christian Smith - sweeping the 800 m to represent the USA? That was truly an amazing race! Then there's Tom Pappas, competing for the 3rd time in the decathlon.
There were soo many great things that we saw during the track and field trials, but Tyson Gay was a favorite we followed (refer to "Oregon Days" blog)! The poor man was denied the world record due to that pesky tail wind and then he had a muscle cramp in the 200.
We can't wait for August to watch all the events! Go USA!!!!!
